Chris van Ouwerkerk – Owner, Butcher, and Jerk Guy
Chris started working with meat at the tender age of 14, cleaning meat cutters at a local grocery store in Stratford. He left the big box meat business behind after high school and has never looked back.
After acquiring his street creds as a touring musician and completing a degree in history, Chris began working at a small local meat market where he began to learn the fundamentals of whole animal butchery. He then moved to Vancouver to apprentice under a full-trained British butcher, chef, and beef jerky producer.
Upon returning to PEI, Chris founded Jercules Beef Jerky in 2014 and then opened Butcher & Butcher in early 2016. And while he was grinding meat at the butchery, he was also grinding away at his studies in law. In 2017, Chris graduated from law school and was called to the Ontario Bar in October 2020.
If you’re looking for someone that knows meat AND the law inside and out, Chris is your man.
Jenn – Happiness, The Real Boss, Cheer
Jenn used to be a vegetarian. Now she is happy to be part of a conscientious and ethical butcher shop dedicated to sourcing humanely-raised, happy and healthy animals.
A Summerside girl at heart, Jenn loves helping customers, learning more about meat, and pretending she doesn’t know what she’s doing. When she isn’t in the shop, Jenn works full-time as a Pharmacy Technician in the Emergency Room of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Elsie – The Real REAL Boss
Elsie Mae van Ouwerkerk was born on August 15th, 2020, and quickly climbed the ladder to assume her natural role as CEO of Butcher & Butcher. She likes to smile and making funny noises at her parents.
